Honeymoons- The Groom’s Time to Shine!

Ok guys, listen up!  Tradition says that it’s YOUR responsibility to make and pay for the honeymoon arrangements.  This is definitely your opportunity to shine.  With the help of our honeymoon experts we will arm you with a list of  topics to discuss, questions to ask and options to consider when planning for the first days of your life together.

Most of us are doers.  We want a job and a list of what our job duties include.  The grooms job is not so much planning every detail of the honeymoon but more making sure that every aspect of the trip is booked and prepared prior to departure.

Your duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Travel Documentation and ID Requirements. Verify at the time of booking that the expiration of your ID’s are at least 6 months after your return date and that the names on your travel itinerary match EXACTLY the names on your ID’s.
  • Deposit and Final Payment. Final payment is typically due 45 days prior to travel.  Ask your honeymoon planner for 3 copies of the itinerary and inquire as to when you can expect your final travel documents.  The sooner you get them, the sooner you can put that part of your duties  to bed.
  • Copy of Your Travel Itinerary. Leave a copy of your travel itinerary with two separate people back home each with your resort contact information listed… just in case.

Honeymoon Surprise

  • Luggage Packed and Ready to go. Create a a honeymoon packing list separating what goes in the carry-on and what goes in the checked luggage.
  • Travel Expenses. Prebook and pay for as many added features as possible, like spa treatments and excursions.  If it’s not possible to prebook your selections, arrive in destination with dates, times and local currency in hand.
  • Tip Money. Bring $5 and $1 bills for easy tipping.
  • Airline Check-In. Airlines allow online check-in 24 hours prior to travel.  If you are traveling the day after your wedding, it’s best to assign this duty to someone other than yourself.  Have them check for a first class upgrade or possible seat upgrades, prepay your bags, print your boarding passes and place them with your travel document folder.
  • In Flight Snacks. Again, your chance to shine!  We call it “in flight romance”.  Pack an assortment of her favorite snacks or a food with a special meaning for the two of you.  Add your own romantic twist and magically you are a shining knight!   Maybe it’s a linen Placemat, a small battery operated candle and granola bars for two? All it takes is a little planning and imagination.
  • In Room, Jacuzzi, Balcony and Patio Romance. Body oils, massage lotions, CD’s, tea candles and holders, bubble bath, or bath salts, incense, aroma therapy are some ideas.  Remember when packing liquids if they are in your carry on you are limited to 3 ounces in each bottle.
