“Which resort is your favorite?”

At the January  Twin City Bridal Show  I was asked, “Which resort is your favorite?”  That question can really get a travel professional started!   What  a great opportunity to talk about some of my favorite resorts.  I get pretty passionate about the inclusions and differences in resorts.  Here re some of my thoughts on that question, and some of my favorite resorts.

More than one favorite resort?  Absolutely, I have different favorites for different types of vacations I take.   What does my having different resort favorites have to do with which is my favorite?  It’s like asking the question, “Where do you want to eat tonight?”.  The answer depends on what I am hungry for….So with that in mind let’s talk about some of my favorite places to vacation, and what I am “hungry” for when I choose them.

I love Sandals Negril, when I am looking for beach side dining.  This resort has dining right on the water from breakfast to lunch, dinner, to my midnight snack.  I can meet my ocean side dining desire 24 hours a day at this resort.

Couples Swept Away, when I am looking for tennis.  I love watching my friends play on the clay courts (notice I didn’t say me).  This is a great resort for the sports enthusiast in me.

The El Dorado Royale Casita Resort is absolutely my favorite when I am thinking about sleeping outside.  Yes, the balconies of the suites at El Dorado Royale Casita include a wonderful bed for my afternoon snooze or an evening under the stars.  With 24 hour room service what else might I want.

When I am looking for the most beautiful beach imaginable, my choice is Secrets Maroma, where walking the beach is an actual luxury.

The Barcelo Palace in Punta Cana has an incredibly wide beach and it’s an easy fight from Minneapolis in January, and the 24 hour room service is just icing on top the cake.

THE Royal in Cancun, ahhhhh this resort, no matter which room I book, I am able to look directly at the ocean, and it’s adults only with complimentary room service as well.

There are so many variables in romantic resorts.  Resorts that don’t even “bill” themselves as romantic might be the perfect romantic resort for you simply by their inclusions.  For the pool lovers out there, it’s all about the pool, or maybe the swim-up bar, or included excursion.  

I think my favorites would be Sandals Negril, El Dorado Seaside and AZUL Beach.  It’s hard t tell if they are my favorite because at each of them I have had the pleasure of actually vacationing within their walls them.  Not staying at them actually vacationing there, so my memories are all about relaxing when I drift back to my days on their beaches.  Sometimes our “favorite” has more to do with experience and feelings rather than all the “stuff” around us.
